According to reports, Manchester City is in the lead to sign Antoine Semenyo, a winger for AFC Bournemouth, during the January transfer window. In January, Semenyo was connected to a number of Premier League teams, including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Liverpool. However, it is said that he would rather join City.

With nine goals and three assists in 17 Premier League games this season, the Ghana international has been in outstanding form for the Cherries. Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen Man City’s offensive ranks in order to stage a successful championship campaign. Man City is currently two points behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings.

Semenyo’s contract contains a £65 million release clause that should be activated during the first 10 days of January, according to several reports. Semenyo wants a possible transfer to City to be finalised by January 1st, but Bournemouth has other intentions, according to a report from The Mirror.

Semenyo sets new Man City transfer deadline

According to BBC Sport, Semenyo wants the legalities of a potential transfer completed as soon as possible so that when the transfer market opens on January 1, he will effectively be a Manchester City player.

However, Bournemouth wants to hold onto him until January 10, so Semenyo could theoretically play in important games against Tottenham and Arsenal before heading north to Manchester.

Since Semenyo is one of the top strikers in the Premier League this season, teams like Arsenal and Spurs will be closely monitoring events to see whether they will face him before he leaves the south coast.

Following Saturday’s 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest, Pep Guardiola was questioned about Semenyo’s prospects of joining the former Premier League winners in the January transfer window following claims that he favours a move to Manchester City.
