Mikel Arteta has hailed Manchester City’s Sunday visit to the Emirates as the ideal litmus test for Arsenal’s abilities and said that his old team is still in the running for the Premier League championship even if they have only won 50% of their league games thus far.
Before leaving for north London in December 2019, Arteta won the league twice during his three years as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City. He spoke kindly of his old mentor.
“The standards he demands from everyone around him, the demands he places first on himself, and his will to succeed, grow, and improve,” he stated.
He wants to know about the greatest individuals; thus, you’re continuously observing him. He is, in my opinion, the world’s greatest coach. Working with him and winning a lot alongside him was a pleasure. It’s always wonderful to see him again.
Even though City, the eight-time Premier League winners, had dropped two of their first four games, Arteta remained adamant when asked if they still had a chance to win the championship. “I definitely believe so.
Man City without a doubt in Premier League title race
Arteta’s team finished second to City for two years in a row, and there was controversy surrounding their games last season. Before Myles Lewis-Skelly mimicked the striker’s celebration after scoring in Arsenal’s victory at the Emirates, Erling Haaland advised Arteta to “remain humble” after a 2-2 draw at the Etihad.
Arteta is aware that a victory over City will send a message that his team can compete against Liverpool this season, and Arsenal is attempting to break a 22-year league title drought. Arteta said, “Winning those games creates that conviction that you can go and win the game, but not against them, against any opposition.” Arsenal is presently on a five-game winning streak over City.
We go to Sunday with the intention of winning the game and creating another positive moment for ourselves, and that’s the sense I now have with the squad and each player individually. Consistency, playing against one of the world’s top teams, and a solid test to gauge our level are all beneficial.
“Since the international break, we’ve won two crucial games, we’re feeling really good about the games, and we’re getting ready for a big game on Sunday.”
