Gundogan called up Pep Guardiola at the beginning of this week and his return has been approved.
Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan may reunite with Manchester City as the Cityzens are close to finalising a return at Etihad. Barca man announced his international retirement on Monday.
Gundogan joined Barcelona on free transfer last summer. He scored five goals and provided 14 assists in 51 appearances for the club across all competitions last season.
His contract was extended for one more year and it will keep him at Camp Nou till 2026. Now, reports are stating that 33-year-old has agreed to leave Barcelona this summer.
Barcelona wants to reduce their wage bill in order to make new signing Dani Olmo for the 2024-25 season. Gundogan was not part of the Barca squad in opening game against Valencia.
The German international is also on radar of top clubs in Saudi, Qatar and Turkiye. Man City are favourites to get the signature of the 33-year-old.
Gundogan called up Pep Guardiola at the beginning of this week and the former Catalan manager has approved the German’s return to the club. As per reports of Que T’hi Jugues, Gundogan’s representative has arrived in Manchester to begin negotiations with Man City over a return.
The Germany midfielder scored 60 goals and provided 38 assists in 304 appearances for City across all competitions. He was the top-scorer of the 2020-21 season with 17 goals and won the league.
