Barcelona President Plotting Ways To Sign Pep Guardiola Despite Contract Extension

Barcelona president, Victor Font has not given up on signing Pep Guardiola just yet.

Manchester City extended his contract until June 2023 which will make it his longest association with any club in his managerial career.

He stayed with Barcelona for four years and then switched to Bayern Munich for three after taking a year-long sabbatical. The Spaniard arrived at the Etihad in 2015 and has won two Premier League titles.

Barcelona were hoping to bring back Guardiola at the helm even if it took the 2020/21 season to convince him. The Blaugrana ended up firing Quique Setien and appointed Ronald Koeman in his place.

So far, the Dutchman has done okay but Font’s plan was to always get Guardiola. He even campaigned with the idea when Barcelona’s presidential seat was being disputed last term.

Font declared, “I am very happy for him because it means he will continue to do what he wants where he wants. We wish him the best. We hope that sooner or later we can create the conditions for him so that he can return to the club to help us.”

Barca’s chances of signing Guardiola in the near future might have disappeared but it all could depend on how he performs at City as well.
