Bayern Munich are monitoring Phil Foden’s situation at Manchester City as the Premier League champions brace for a potential guilty verdict in their long-running financial case.
Bayern Munich ready to pounce If Man City sell Phil Foden
The German giants have identified the England international as a prime target should City face severe sanctions that force a squad exodus.
City intend to appeal the Premier League commission’s findings, and no punishment has yet been imposed.
However, the looming threat of relegation or a transfer ban has sparked speculation across Europe.
According to TEAMtalk, Bayern would move quickly if City become willing or forced to sell Foden.
The timing would be striking. Foden, 26, signed a new four-year contract in July that runs until 2030, committing his peak years to the Etihad.
City described him as a central figure for the future, and he has since spoken of his excitement at working under Enzo Maresca.
Foden remains one of City’s most decorated academy graduates, having won 20 major honours since joining at age nine.
Yet his 2025/26 campaign proved mixed by his standards 10 goals and seven assists in 50 appearances and he missed England’s World Cup squad.
Bayern’s interest makes sporting sense. Foden operates centrally or on either flank, boasts extensive Champions League experience, and is entering his prime.
For City, however, selling him would represent a major symbolic blow, given his status as the clearest example of their development pathway.
Everything hinges on the eventual sanction. If City stay in the Premier League and continue competing in Europe, Foden likely stays.
If relegation or another severe punishment reshapes the landscape, Bayern’s contingency planning could quickly become a genuine transfer pursuit.
