Ederson, Manchester City‘s trusted goalkeeper, has hinted that the club may have already lined up a successor for Pep Guardiola, whose future at the club remains unclear as his contract nears its expiration at the end of the season.
Ederson Hints Manchester City Have Guardiola’s Successor Lined Up
Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, Ederson emphasized City’s forward-thinking approach.
“City is a very well-structured club, with great directors and a fantastic CEO. I believe they already have the next manager in mind,” the Brazilian goalkeeper revealed, highlighting the club’s preparedness for a potential post-Guardiola era.
Guardiola, who has been pivotal in transforming City into one of Europe’s dominant forces, has yet to make a decision on whether he will extend his stay beyond this season.
Having secured six Premier League titles and a historic treble, his potential departure would undoubtedly mark the end of an era.
However, Ederson expressed confidence that the club is ready to continue its success even without the world-renowned tactician.
While no official replacement has been confirmed, Ruben Amorim, the current manager of Sporting CP, has been widely tipped to take the reins if Guardiola decides to move on.
Amorim, known for his innovative style and success with Sporting, has caught the attention of Europe’s elite clubs, and City could be planning for a seamless transition by maintaining the tactical philosophy that has flourished under Guardiola.
Guardiola, when recently asked about his future, remained coy but open to all possibilities.
“If I had decided something, I would say so,” he mentioned, while also clarifying that no decision has been made yet.
With Txiki Begiristain, City’s influential director of football, set to depart as well, the club has already moved to fill his role with Hugo Viana from Sporting, reinforcing Ederson’s belief that City are planning for the future with precision.
