As there are increasing rumours that Pep Guardiola may depart the Etihad this summer, Man City has already begun negotiations with a possible replacement. From his time as Guardiola’s assistant manager, Enzo Maresca has been widely predicted to be the next manager of Man City.
Prior to Maresca leaving Chelsea, City had discussions with him regarding the position, as I disclosed on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast. In addition to persistent worries and problems with ownership meddling, such discussions were a major factor in his decision to leave Stamford Bridge.
This follows Football Insider’s first report in November that Man City is seeking a short-term and a long-term replacement for Guardiola. City is already moving more quickly to bring in Guardiola’s replacement as rumours that he may quit sooner rather than later intensify. I clarified in an interview with the Transfer Insider podcast: “Yeah, there does appear to be a growing sense that Guardiola could depart at the end of the season.
Manchester City hold Enzo Maresca talks
Football Insider reports that Manchester City has had discussions with Enzo Maresca, the former manager of Chelsea. Pep Guardiola may leave as Man City’s manager at the end of the current campaign, and the Cityzens have been in touch with Maresca, who resigned as Chelsea’s manager on New Year’s Day. Guardiola may quit City this summer, according to several reports that are currently circulating.
In order to replace an elite manager, Man City will be searching for a new one. “Maresca informed Chelsea that he had been talking to City officials about taking Guardiola’s place, which was one of the reasons he departed the club.
As Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad, he worked under him. As a result, he would tick several boxes. This one is likely to continue till the season’s conclusion. It’s a highly alluring position, and given his success at Etihad Stadium, Guardiola will be difficult to follow.
