Prior to Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying match against Moldova, Erling Haaland had to have stitches put in his mouth following an accident involving Norway’s team bus.
As the players arrived at their team hotel in Oslo, the Manchester City striker, who had scored the game-winning goal in Thursday’s 1-0 friendly victory against Finland, was hit in the face by a baggage compartment door.
According to The Sun, witnesses reported that the 24-year-old let out a cry of agony following the strike. Ola Sand, the team doctor, and Geir Ellefsen, the senior security adviser, treated him right away and escorted him into the hotel for evaluation.
Haaland needed three stitches to close a wound on his top lip. He shared a photo of the wound on social media later that night with the caption, “Just got banged out by a bus door.” three stitches.
Haaland accepted the joke when one of the supporters questioned whether he had been punched. “Hahahaha, only incorrect answers,” he said.
