When John Stones’ contract with Manchester City expires in the summer, Everton is reportedly considering him. Despite behind Arsenal by five points in the Premier League championship race, the Citizens have a game in hand and will play the Gunners in April.
Pep Guardiola’s victory might usher in a new era at the Etihad, spearheaded by rookies like Marc Guehi. Veteran stars like John Stones, who will be a free agent in the summer, may be displaced by the club’s new additions.
According to Football Insider, Everton is reportedly interested in Stones, but the Toffees might not be able to pay his signing-on fee, which might lead to foreign teams vying for his services.
Since joining in the summer of 2016, John Stones, an Englishman, has had 19 different ailments that have severely limited his time at the Etihad. The defender has started less than 17 Premier League games in five seasons for City, and he has never started more than 23 league games for the team.
Everton plot ‘difficult’ John Stones deal
Football Insider reported in January that former Manchester United senior scout Mick Brown said David Moyes “would love” to be able to bring Stones back to Everton this summer.
During his tenure at West Ham, Brown collaborated with the Scottish manager, and he disclosed that his former manager would see the City player as an improvement over his existing defensive choices. The Merseysiders will likely face fierce competition to get Stones, though, as he is expected to be available on a free transfer.
Stones’ former center-back partner Vincent Kompany is attempting to get him to join Bayern Munich, Brown said to Football Insider last week.
During the Belgian’s playing career, the two spent a number of years together at the Etihad, and he is currently attempting to take use of their connection to outperform the opposition. The German powerhouses are a fierce opponent of Everton as they are among the select few teams who have already been acknowledged to be interested in the defender.
