Everton are reportedly ready to compete with European giants Bayern Munich and Juventus for the signature of versatile Manchester City defender Rico Lewis.
Everton eye move for Man City’s Rico Lewis following Grealish arrival
This pursuit comes hot on the heels of the Toffees securing Jack Grealish on loan from the Etihad last week.
According to TBR Football, Everton are firmly in the mix for the 20-year-old England international.
Despite Manchester City’s willingness to offer Lewis a new contract, his future remains uncertain, and the Premier League champions appear open to considering offers for their academy graduate.
Lewis attracts significant interest, with Everton understood to be one of at least five Premier League clubs approached by intermediaries. Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Tottenham Hotspur are also closely monitoring the situation.
Manager David Moyes values versatility, and Lewis perfectly fits that profile. He operated in five different positions for Pep Guardiola last season, including right-back, left-back, and defensive midfield.
This adaptability mirrors qualities the recently departed Ashley Young provided, making Lewis a potential key replacement.
Moyes has a strong track record of nurturing young English talent, famously aiding the development of Wayne Rooney and Declan Rice.
Lewis could view Goodison Park as an ideal place to secure the regular first-team football crucial for his development and World Cup ambitions next year.
Although Lewis started and provided an assist in City’s 4-0 win over Wolves on August 16th, indicating he remains in Guardiola’s plans, talks between the player and manager in the coming weeks are expected to determine his immediate future.
Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid add significant continental competition.
With the transfer window closing on September 1st, Everton are positioning themselves for a potential double raid on Manchester City, aiming to add Lewis’s burgeoning talent to their squad following Grealish’s arrival on Merseyside.
