Everton have officially opened discussions with Manchester City over a possible season-long loan deal for England international Jack Grealish, 29, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
Everton Launch Talks with Man City to Sign Jack Grealish on Loan
The proposed move would see the former Villa captain leave City, where he has fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola.
Grealish, the club-record £100 million signing in 2021, is under contract at the Etihad until June 2027 and reportedly earns around £300,000 per week.
His limited role last season included just one Premier League start and exclusion from City’s Club World Cup squad. Despite featuring in City’s treble-winning campaign in 2022–23, his minutes have dropped significantly.
Everton’s appeal lies in giving Grealish the central, free‑roaming midfield position where he previously excelled something his role on City’s left flank rarely permitted.
With World Cup qualification under new England coach Thomas Tuchel in mind, regular playing time at Everton could help him reclaim his form and regain selection opportunities.
Club sources confirm that while Manchester City would prefer a permanent sale, Everton’s strongest proposal so far involves a loan deal with full wage coverage a financial structure driven by tight budget constraints and FFP considerations.
Negotiations are in early stages and remain “complicated”, with no guarantees the deal will be completed before the transfer window closes.
Should the agreement go through, Grealish would provide David Moyes’ squad with an experienced playmaker able to unlock games.
However, Everton must weigh the potential impact on squad balance especially in managing roles for players like Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil , if Grealish arrives.
With Everton now focused on building momentum ahead of their season opener on August 16 at Elland Road, securing Grealish even temporarily—would represent a major statement of intent for the Merseyside club.
