Man City prepared to open contract negotiations with goalkeeper Ederson

Felix Correia, a former Manchester City signing, has revealed he regrets leaving his former club Sporting Lisbon to join the Premier League champions.

“I Would Have Stayed”: Felix Correia Opens Up About Regretting Man City Transfer

In a recent interview with Portuguese outlet O Jogo, the 23-year-old winger reflected on his move to the Etihad in 2019, admitting it didn’t match his expectations.

Correia, who now plays for Gil Vicente in Portugal, opened up about the challenges he faced after leaving the stability of Sporting’s academy.

“When I think back, I would have stayed in Lisbon,” Correia shared candidly.

“At the time, I was excited for the experience abroad, but today I see things differently.”

He explained that the structure and vision at Sporting might have offered him a better pathway than he found at City, where he struggled to break into the first team and was instead loaned out multiple times.

Correia joined City with high hopes but found himself away from Pep Guardiola’s main squad, bouncing between various loan stints, including at Juventus’ U23 team and AZ Alkmaar.

The constant movement hindered his development and left him yearning for a more stable environment.

“Living alone abroad changed me, gave me experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise,” he added, acknowledging that while his journey at City brought some personal growth, it ultimately lacked the professional fulfilment he’d hoped for.

Now, back in Portugal and at an age where many players start hitting their prime, Correia is focused on carving out a path at Gil Vicente.

Reflecting on his choices, he’s clear-eyed but optimistic, saying, “I’m a different Felix today.”
