According to reports, Manchester City is the clear frontrunner to sign Tino Livramento, a defender for Newcastle United, during the summer transfer window. After joining the Magpies from Southampton in the summer of 2023, the versatile full-back has made 100 appearances in all competitions and established himself as a dependable defender.
Due to injuries, the 23-year-old has only made 11 Premier League starts this season, but that hasn’t stopped rumours that he would leave Tyneside.
Pep Guardiola is eager to bolster his right-back options before the upcoming season, and Manchester City has been heavily linked to a bid for the England international. After being converted from a midfielder, Matheus Nunes has been used at right-back, although Livramento is apparently a top target for City as they search for a natural full-back.
Guardiola’s interest in Livramento is understandable given their ability to play on both wings. Football Insider claims that Livramento is “nailed on” to join Manchester City for the upcoming season, despite the fact that the transfer is anticipated to be costly.
Man City willing to pay world record fee for Livramento
TEAMtalk claims that while Newcastle has been attempting to get the defender to sign a new deal, Man City has been pressing for Livramento’s arrival since last summer. City is certain that the 23-year-old would be eager to join them once the season ends, despite the Magpies’ inability to make progress in negotiations thus far.
Since Kyle Walker left City for Burnley last summer, Livramento is viewed as the best option to ultimately address the team’s right-back issues. Even if it means paying a world record price for a full-back, City is willing to spend a lot of money on the defender.
That may be the case given that Newcastle values Livramento at over £70 million; the Magpies don’t seem inclined to back down from their expectations after playing hardball with Liverpool over Alexander Isak before the season. Achraf Hakimi, a wide defender for Paris Saint-Germain who moved from Inter Milan for £60 million in the summer of 2021, is still the most expensive wide defender in the world.
