Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hit back at speculation surrounding Jack Grealish’s future after the England international was left out of the squad for their crucial 2-0 win over Fulham on the final day of the Premier League season.

Guardiola Bites Back at Critics Over Grealish Decision: “I Have 24 Players”

City’s victory at Craven Cottage, which secured them a Champions League spot, came without Grealish in the matchday squad—raising eyebrows once again about the £100 million signing’s role at the club.

Despite being pivotal in City’s treble-winning campaign two years ago, the 29-year-old has endured a frustrating season, starting just seven league games and remaining an unused substitute in City’s FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace.

Guardiola, however, was quick to dismiss any personal issue with the winger, instead pointing to the sheer depth of talent he has to manage.

“Who said I’m not happy with Jack?” Guardiola responded sharply when questioned.

“Rico Lewis wasn’t selected either. McAtee was exceptional recently—why not ask me about him?”

The City manager clarified that his decision was purely tactical and not a reflection of Grealish’s ability.

“It’s not personal. I have 24 players and I have to leave out five or six every match.

Jack is an unbelievable player who needs to be playing every three days. That didn’t happen this season—and not the last either,” Guardiola admitted.

With speculation mounting, Guardiola left the door open for a possible Grealish exit.

“He needs to play regularly. That’s either here or somewhere else. That’s a decision for Jack, his agent, and the club.”

Despite the turbulent season, Guardiola expressed pride in his squad for finishing strong.

“When we couldn’t win the title, the players could have given up—but they didn’t. Securing Champions League football is a big achievement.”

As for next season, the City boss issued a firm promise: “We will learn from this and come back stronger. It won’t happen again.”
