Manchester City are in a predicament when it comes to Eric Garcia.
They have failed to extend his contract which means he won’t be playing much in his final season for the Cityzens.
Garcia showed plenty of promise early on. Pep Guardiola entrusted him in key fixtures and he delivered as a budding teenager. Now with some experience under his belt, Barcelona want to resign him and the player is hooked.
He originally switched camps from Barca to the Etihad to further his development as a youngster. After signing his professional deal, it seems like his heart is set on a Camp Nou return. City have accepted on losing Garcia as Barca might begin talks over of a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool have chimed in with an interest due to their centre-back situation. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez’s injury has left them short of quality at the back. Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips has featured sporadically in the role but Jurgen Klopp remains with Joe Matip and Fabinho as his first choices.
Garcia would be a brilliant addition, given his technical prowess, maturity on the tackle and ability to pass out from the back. The only problem lies in City owning the players’ rights. Plus, it would take a lot to convince Garcia into rejecting Barca’s approach.
