Manchester City are exploring the activation of Antoine Semenyo’s £65 million release clause in the January transfer window, according to a fresh report. In recent weeks, Semenyo has been firmly connected to leaving the Vitality Stadium in the middle of the season, and teams in the Premier League have been informed that the Ghanaian international may be looking for a new challenge as early as January 2026.
Although the 25-year-old has drawn interest from overseas, it is said that he is eager to remain in England. Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool are among the teams vying for one of the most dangerous strikers in the English Premier League.
Since the beginning of the season, City has been unduly dependent on Erling Haaland to score goals; thus, they badly need attacking additions if they are to push Arsenal through thick and thin in the championship battle.
Phil Foden’s brace meant Manchester City avoided a third dismal defeat in a week on Saturday as the England international struck a momentous winner in injury time to seal a 3-2 win for his childhood club over Leeds United at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City keen to activate Antoine Semenyo’s release clause
According to The Times, Manchester City are contemplating a deal for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo. They are contemplating triggering the winger’s £65m release clause on New Year’s Day, perhaps beating other suitors to sign the Ghana international.
Although not fixed in stone, there is a belief around the club that bringing in the Cherries attacker might be the difference in their pursuit for the Premier League crown, an idea that many will share given his soaring start to the campaign.
Jamie Redknapp called Semenyo “talented”, and according to Fotmob, he has completed 21 dribbles and generated 15 opportunities while playing in the Premier League, demonstrating his attraction to suitors eager to lure him away from the South Coast.
It will now be up to City officials to persuade Semenyo that relocating to Manchester is the right move for his career. On the face of it, playing a part in a title pursuit may be an intriguing proposition.
