Enzo Maresca is being considered by Manchester City to succeed Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium. Stefan Borson, a former financial advisor for Man City, told Football Insider exclusively that Guardiola may go if his team wins the Premier League this year.
Although the Catalan manager’s contract expires in June 2027, there has been a lot of conjecture in recent months over his future. Given that Maresca was formerly Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad, Guardiola is anticipated to have a say in his successor. As club executives get ready for Guardiola’s possible departure, the Italian isn’t the only contender mentioned as the next manager of Man City.
Maresca left Chelsea in January after a public altercation with the Stamford Bridge board, making him a free agent. Although he has a contract with Bayern Munich that expires in June 2029, Vincent Kompany is also one of the contenders to succeed Guardiola.
Man City make decision on Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola
Maresca is said to still have contractual obligations to Chelsea, which might be a barrier to City’s acquisition of him. With three and a half years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, along with the option to extend it by another year, the former Leicester manager is said to have walked away.
Despite being under contract until 2029, Maresca told Chelsea before he departed that he had twice discussed Guardiola’s successor with City. His abrupt departure from the Blues astonished the football community. After joining from Leicester City in June 2024, Maresca led the Blues back into the Champions League before winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup in his first season.
Borson talked about Guardiola’s circumstances at the Etihad in an exclusive interview with Football Insider. Borson remarked, “It’s beginning to look like something is going on in the background.” It’s a little odd since folks who appear to have good knowledge also tend to imply that it won’t occur. Naturally, Pep claims that it won’t happen and that he will fulfil his term, but there are indications that something is wrong.
