Pep Guardiola looks for more improvement than winning another title

According to a recent rumor, Elliot Anderson is a key transfer target for Etihad Stadium officials ahead of the summer, but a move will hinge on one current Manchester City player.

After a breakthrough few seasons at Nottingham Forest, where the 23-year-old is reportedly valued at a staggering £100 million due to intense interest in the England international, Anderson is now one of the most sought-after midfielders in English football.

Nico Gonzalez joined Manchester City’s midfield in January 2025, and the 24-year-old has shown himself to be a viable replacement for Ballon d’Or winner Rodri this season as the latter returns to match fitness following a terrible, injury-plagued 15 months.

Although Rodri’s contract at the Etihad Stadium expires in 18 months, it is hard to see how Manchester City officials won’t sign the 29-year-old to a new contract at some time in the upcoming 12 months.

Anderson won’t be leaving Forest, and it’s doubtful that City will make any significant moves this month. Man United is also considering Anderson, although Forest’s £100 million valuation of his services is now preventing any departure.

According to Jack Gaughan of Mail Sport, Rodri’s performance and ability to demonstrate his fitness over the rest of the season will determine whether or if Manchester City pursues Elliot Anderson.

In 2024, Rodri became the first player in Manchester City history to win the Ballon d’Or. However, the Spaniard has since battled recurrent injuries, which coincided with the Blues’ poorest season under Guardiola.

After adding Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki to their midfield in 2025, the Blues are anticipated to make a serious bid for the England international prior to the 2026–2027 campaign. Anderson is generally predicted to depart Manchester City in the summer.
