Manchester City are reportedly preparing to renew their interest in West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta after the Brazilian was cleared of breaching FA betting rules.

Pep’s Second Chance: Cleared Paqueta Back on Man City’s Radar

The 26-year-old, who faced an 18-month investigation into suspicious yellow cards, is now free to pursue a move after the case was dropped.

City had previously targeted Paqueta in 2023, submitting a £70m bid before talks collapsed due to the betting probe.

At the time, an £85m release clause was set to activate, but West Ham refused to negotiate amid the uncertainty. With the legal cloud lifted, Pep Guardiola’s side could finally secure their long-term target.

Since joining West Ham from Lyon in 2022, Paqueta has been a standout performer, contributing 18 goals and 14 assists in 120 appearances.

His creativity and work rate align with City’s midfield needs, particularly with Kevin De Bruyne entering the latter stages of his career.

The Premier League champions, who begin their pre-season against Palermo on August 9, are expected to test West Ham’s resolve with a fresh bid.

Paqueta’s contract runs until 2027, but the lure of Champions League football and a title race could tempt the Hammers to cash in.

For City, the move would add depth ahead of a packed schedule, while Paqueta gets the elite platform his talent deserves. With the betting saga resolved, this transfer could finally get the green light.
