This month, Manchester City is reportedly “exploring a sensational late deal” to sign Joshua Kimmich, a standout for Bayern Munich. Being the highest spenders this window, Pep Guardiola’s team has been active in the transfer market this month, spending over £120 million. A terrible run of form towards the end of 2024 destroyed their ambitions of winning the Premier League; thus, this was a must going into this window.

Man City is in need of additions at a number of positions, and thus far this transfer window, versatile forward Omar Marmoush has joined center-backs Abdulukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis. The Premier League winners’ failure to acquire a new defensive midfield player is somewhat unexpected, considering this was supposed to be their first priority following Rodri’s season-ending injury. One of the top 20 football players who might become a free agent in 2025 is Kimmich, whom Man City has been linked to as a possible target.

Man City is interested in signing a Bayern star this month

This January, City hopes to add a central midfield player to their roster to give Guardiola more alternatives following Rodri’s season-ending injury. With his expertise, Kimmich can accomplish that, particularly in the Champions League, where City hopes to contend. This season, the defensive midfielder has appeared in 28 games across all competitions and is still a reliable member of the Munich midfield.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Man City is planning a last-minute move to get Kimmich before the transfer season ends. “As he approaches the last six months of his contract at the Allianz Arena, Kimmich is currently determining his next course of action.” Because of his ability to play right back if necessary, City is considering the potential of a deal. According to Football Insider, the Premier League powerhouses are keeping an eye on Douglas Luiz, so the Munich star isn’t the only option City is thinking about. Having already spent more than £100 million this month, City is now concentrating on acquiring the Brazil international on loan.
