Manchester City eyeing Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse

Guardiola wants James Ward-Prowse to replace Fernandinho who will leave the club.

Manchester City are eyeing Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

According to The Sun, it could spark a £75million summer tug-of-war, as Manchester City chief Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the Southampton captain.

Meanwhile, Man United are also planning for Ward-Prowse. New manager, Erik ten Hag is looking for the 27-year-old, with West Ham intent on keeping Declan Rice for one more season.

Old Trafford sources reckon he can play in the midfield holding role.

The Saints skipper earns around £100,000-a-week, meaning his salary even with a hefty hike is no stumbling block either.

He still has four years in his contract and Guardiola wants a midfielder to replace Fernandinho who will leave the club. The City boss has called JWP one of the world’s best dead-ball specialists.
