Manchester City and Pep set new records after Leeds victory

Pep Guardiola’s side is now four points clear at the top of the table.

Manchester City and Pep secured a thumping victory against Leeds and set new records. The Club have equalled Liverpool’s all-time top-flight record for the most wins in a single calendar year. City thrashed Leeds United 7-0 on Wednesday night.

The Citizens were three goals ahead after the first half, thanks to strikes from Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne.

Foden’s first goal was the 500th Premier League goal under Pep Guardiola. He broke the previous top-flight record set by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who scored their 500th league goal in his 234th game earlier this season.

It was Man City’s 33rd league win in 2021, which matches the impressive feat achieved by Liverpool back in 1982. Chelsea’s 32 victories in 2005 was the Premier League record before Man City’s victory against Leeds.

Guardiola’s side is now four points clear at the top of the table and they have three more games left in 2021. They will look to break this record in their next game against struggling Newcastle.
