Manchester City and AC Milan have begun club-to-club negotiations as they move forward with their goal of acquiring midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, with a “quick” transfer anticipated.
In anticipation of Kevin de Bruyne’s departure, Pep Guardiola has made bolstering the midfield a top priority. Man City is now concentrating on other targets after withdrawing from the competition for Florian Wirtz.
The Cityzens had a serious interest in Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz until they learned that he would have preferred to join Bayern. However, in a significant turn of events, he ultimately chose to join Liverpool.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Man City is now confident of completing a deal and is moving forward with a move for Milan midfielder Reijnders instead. Romano wrote on X, “Manchester City has begun club-to-club talks with AC Milan for Tijjani Reijnders as a top target.”
“The opening bid is anticipated to arrive shortly, and negotiations will resume next week.” In addition to anticipating other elite European teams interested in Reijnders, City wants to be quick for the Club World Cup. City must act swiftly and forcefully to sign Reijnders before the FIFA Club World Cup starts on June 14.
Man City set to step up Reijnders move
The Etihad is apparently still interested in one Serie A star, despite the fact that stories seemed to slow down after a rush of news indicating their interest.
Manchester City plans to increase its efforts to buy Tijjani Reijnders when the transfer window opens on Sunday, June 1, so they can send the midfield player to the Club World Cup, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, which was cited by Sport Witness.
It’s unclear, though, if AC Milan will make the discussions so straightforward. Given the projected €60 million (£50 million) asking price, Reijnders is unlikely to be cheap no matter when a deal is finalized.
“We have been speculating for a few days that Milan may sell Tijjani Reijnders, a key player, right after the season ends. Through PianetaMilan, the Sky journalist stated that negotiations with Manchester City were at a more advanced stage.
Reijnders recently extended his contract with Milan, but some of the top European teams, including Real Madrid, have expressed interest in him due to his 15 goals and five assists in 53 games this season across all competitions.
During the January transfer window, Manchester City had previously made contact with the Milan star. Milan may have to sell one of their stars for financial reasons because they did not make it to the 2025–2026 European tournaments.
