Before the 2024-2025 season, Manchester City is holding onto goalkeeper Ederson better than Saudi Arabian clubs, which are still interested in the Brazilian star. Al-Ittihad has been in negotiations to finalize a deal for the Premier League player and has shown interest in the 30-year-old throughout the summer transfer season. But these talks have come to a standstill.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the intricate nature of the contract between Man City and Al Ittihad about Ederson is impeding progress in the negotiations. The Saudi Arabian team reportedly has a list of objectives, including La Liga goalkeepers, and is currently weighing their alternatives.
This is good news for Manchester City supporters because they won’t have wanted to lose their goalie going into the new campaign. However, a player who has declined over the past 12 months would appreciate €60 million as well.
Man City plotting new goalkeeper deal after ‘massive’ Ederson twist
Last season, Ortega filled in for Ederson on occasion, making 20 appearances in all competitions, including nine in the Premier League, and recording eight clean sheets. After leaving German team Arminia Bielefeld in 2022, the goalkeeper joined City on a free transfer and has since made 34 appearances for the team.
The German is reportedly being prepared to take the starting lineup while a backup will enter through the transfer window, according to sources at Etihad Stadium, rather than investing heavily in a new first-choice player.
