Pep Guardiola is keen to end his team’s terrible run of results, and Manchester City is trying to hand a Saudi Pro League star his way back into Europe. The champions have now lost their past seven games across all competitions after yesterday’s loss at Anfield. The Catalan is feeling the fire since this is the longest losing streak in Guardiola’s career, spanning Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and now Manchester City. Big changes are anticipated at the Etihad Stadium in the upcoming transfer windows, with a surprise perhaps coming from Saudi Arabia, as numerous members of City’s aging squad appear worn out.

Guardiola’s team wants to rescue homesick Gabri Veiga from the Saudi Pro League and provide him with a lifeline back to Europe, according to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo. In the summer of 2023, Veiga was connected to City while still playing for Celta Vigo, but he chose to sign for Al Hilal instead, joining the large number of foreign players who relocated to the Middle East during that time.

Gabri Veiga is on agenda of Man City

However, the young Veiga turned over the opportunity to further his career in Europe and joined the Saudi Pro League revolution with Al-Ahli in a deal that stunned the European scene. The Spaniard has contributed eight goals and five assists for his new team in 39 games since joining the Gulf State giants for £24.9 million in the summer of 2023. This season, he has scored four goals and provided one assist in 19 games.

When he first arrived in the Middle East, the 22-year-old only signed a three-year contract; if no extension is reached, Al-Ahli will probably have to think about selling him in the summer of 2025. Veiga will not press for a move out of Al-Ahli, but both Man City and Real Madrid have been made aware of his predicament and may attempt to entice him back to Europe next year, according to Estadio Deportivo. The number 10 spot at Man City, however, might become available if Kevin De Bruyne decides to leave in the summer of 2025 because the seasoned Belgian is now in the last year of his Citizens contract.
