Club Brugge has been contacted by Manchester City to discuss a possible summer signing of Ardon Jashari. Leading teams throughout Europe have taken notice of the defensive midfielder following a stellar season with the Belgian team.
After leading Brugge to the Belgian Cup and Champions League qualification, Jashari was named the Juiler Pro League Player of the Season this week. Following his transfer from Swiss team Luzern, the midfielder had an outstanding debut season.
The midfielder is valued by the Belgian team at almost €35 million (£29.3 million), and West Ham, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in him. According to Sky Germany, Manchester City has begun negotiations with Club Brugge to go over the terms of a possible agreement.
After a season without a trophy at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen his midfield. While Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan’s immediate futures are uncertain, Rodri’s long-term absence was felt after the Spaniard suffered an ACL injury in September.
Man City interested in €35 million-rated defensive midfielder
According to reports, City has already contacted the 22-year-old, who just finished as the Jupiler Pro League’s Player of the Season after an incredible season in Belgium.
Brugge is currently valued at over €35 million, and Manchester City may have to contend with rivals like Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. The two sides have a contract that runs through the summer of 2029.
Despite only joining the Belgian club in April 2024, Jashari earned four goals and six assists from his defensive midfield position in 52 appearances across all competitions during the previous campaign.
After growing up in his home country of Switzerland at the Academy of FC Luzern, Jashari moved to Belgium for an estimated €6 million, setting a club record for the Swiss team in the transfer market.
It is still unclear whether Manchester City’s interest in the player will develop into anything more tangible at this time and whether Pep Guardiola believes he is a player who is ready for the first team right away.
