A financial expert has disclosed Manchester City’s anticipated penalty in the event that they are found guilty of the 115 allegations against them. A ten-week hearing was held in September 2024 after City was accused of 115 financial violations in February 2023.
Before rendering a formal decision, a three-member Independent Commission panel was asked to hear arguments from all sides of the case. But after over a year, City is still waiting on the verdict in the most significant court case in English football history.
City had some progress in a separate legal battle with the Premier League on APT (Associated Party Transaction) rules, which led to a compromise in September 2025, but the matter has continued.
However, new allegations indicate that the case may soon come to an end. According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, there are increasing murmurs from high officials that a verdict would be rendered this month. Stefan Borson, a financial expert, says a verdict is nearly out and imminent, with the next international break being a suggested timeline.
Man City’s 115 charges outlined
Manchester City are certain of being exonerated, as they vigorously refute all claims. City was initially accused of 115 financial counts in February 2023, and the case wasn’t tried until September of last year.
The club and their supporters are hoping that they be found not guilty of any misconduct, as an outcome is reportedly imminent.
The charges include:
“Inability to furnish precise and current financial data from 2009/10 to and including 2017/18.” “Noncompliance with Premier League enquiries from December 2018 to the present [February 2023]” “Inaccurate financial reports for manager and player compensation from 2009–10 to and including 2017–18 were not provided.”
The Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules were broken from 2015–16 to 2017–18. “Noncompliance with UEFA’s rules, such as the Financial Fair Play and Club Licensing Regulations.”
As is also typical in the course of these matters, there will then be an additional wait until the decision and any details are made public. It is undoubtedly an extremely expensive activity for both parties.
