Manchester City Open to Selling Matheus Nunes Amid Ilkay Gundogan’s Return

Manchester City is reportedly open to offers for midfielder Matheus Nunes, following Ilkay Gundogan’s return to the club.

According to sources, the Premier League champions are considering both loan and permanent deals for the Portuguese international, who has struggled to find his footing at the Etihad.

Nunes, who joined City last summer from Wolves for £53 million, was expected to be a dynamic addition to Pep Guardiola’s midfield.

However, the 25-year-old has found it challenging to secure regular playing time in a star-studded squad.

With just 14 starts in 31 appearances, and only five assists to his name, Nunes has failed to make the impact many anticipated.

The recent signing of Gundogan from Barcelona appears to have sealed Nunes’ fate.

With the German international back in the fold, Guardiola is reportedly willing to let Nunes move on before the transfer window closes on August 30.

City has set a price tag of over £40 million for the midfielder, who remains under contract until 2028.

Nunes’ situation is a far cry from his time at Wolves, where he shone in his single season, making 34 starts in 41 outings.

His performances there convinced City to invest heavily in him, but the transition to Guardiola’s demanding system hasn’t gone as smoothly as hoped.

There is speculation that a big-money offer from a Saudi Arabian club could tempt City into selling Nunes.

The club is looking to recoup as much of their initial investment as possible, especially after securing a hefty £81.5 million deal for Julian Alvarez’s move to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.

As the transfer window deadline looms, Nunes’ future remains uncertain.

What is clear, though, is that City is ready to move forward without him, having reshaped their midfield with the return of Gundogan.
