The Brazilian winger Savinho committed to the Premier League powerhouse until 2031 with a one-year extension option when he signed a new contract with Manchester City on Friday. Tottenham had their eye on the 21-year-old during the summer window, but they were apparently turned off by City’s £70 million ($94 million) asking price.

Savinho scored three goals and contributed 13 assists in 48 games last season, his first in English football, while finding it difficult to maintain a consistent starting position in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Savinho said in a club statement, “I am so proud to be able to sign this new contract with City.”

Knowing that Pep and the club have such faith in me is a very wonderful feeling. Since I’m still young and eager to learn more, I feel like I have a lot of work ahead of me. However, I am confident that collaborating with Pep and his team would support my continued growth as a player.

Savinho extends Manchester City deal to 2031

According to reports in August, Tottenham approached City in the summer transfer window about a possible move for Savinho, and a deal of about €50 million was considered. City maintained that they had no intention of selling Savinho, that it would require more than £50 million to approve his departure, and that they considered the issue resolved.

According to other people who were aware of the situation at the time, Spurs’ pursuit was still continuing strong because Pep Guardiola usually doesn’t obstruct players who wish to leave the team and the Brazil international was open to a move.

However, in August, Guardiola declared his hope that Savinho would remain at the Etihad for “many years,” calling him a “very special” player and highlighting his potential.

Last season, Savinho made 48 appearances for City in all competitions, with 13 assists and three goals. He spent the 2023–24 season on loan at La Liga outfit Girona before joining the club in July 2024 in a €40 million deal from French team Troyes.

In Spain, he had contributed to the team’s top-four finish and their first-ever Champions League campaign with 11 goals and 10 assists. The City Football Group (CFG) owns both Girona and Troyes.
