Jahmai Simpson-Pusey of Manchester City has won the title of 2024–25 Premier League 2 Player of the Season. The 19-year-old helped City win the Premier League 2 table and earn our spot in the play-off final, and the award completes an amazing campaign. Simpson-Pusey contributed to six of City’s remarkable seven clean sheets throughout the league stages.
In addition, the Blues only gave up 23 goals in 20 games on their way to that victory; only Brighton (22) could surpass that total. Simpson-Pusey’s growth this season has been nothing short of extraordinary, whether it’s winning aerial duels, making a crucial tackle, starting an assault with a clinical diagonal ball, or captaining the squad.
In our Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season, he earned his senior debut thanks to his tireless efforts in games and innumerable training sessions.
Simpson-Pusey was given his first senior start a week later. He made his Champions League debut during our league phase trip to Sporting CP, and he has since made six first-team outings in all competitions.
Teenage centre-back becomes first defender to win the award
“I am extremely honored to have won this award in a league with so much incredible talent,” Simpson-Pusey said on Man City’s official website. This season has been my best as a City player, and I’m thrilled to have contributed to the team’s PL2 victory and advancement to the play-off final, where we are thrilled to be playing.
The new records we’ve set this season, especially after a challenging season last year, show that we are a terrific team to be a part of because we all push each other to be the best we can be every day.”
With a defense that allowed just 23 goals in 20 games—the second-worst in the division after Brighton & Hove Albion’s 22—Simpson-Pusey was instrumental in helping Man City win the regular season.
In addition to demonstrating his attacking skills with two goals and an assist, he played a key role in his team’s six clean sheet total. After a shortlist of eight candidates, Simpson-Pusey was selected as the Premier League Football Development Panel’s PL2 Player of the Season finalist.
