Manchester City have reached an agreement to bring goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli back to the Etihad Stadium, according to Spanish sports journalist Uriel Iugt.

The Argentine shot-stopper has agreed to a two-year contract with the Premier League champions, though negotiations with Marseille over the transfer fee remain ongoing.

The French club are reportedly holding out for approximately £3 million for the 34-year-old.
Rulli’s return comes during a transformative period for the Citizens, who have already seen John Stones, Bernardo Silva, and most significantly, Pep Guardiola depart the club this summer.
The goalkeeping department has undergone particular upheaval, with James Trafford leaving for Leeds United after being replaced as first-choice by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian international will remain City’s number one, with Rulli expected to provide experienced backup between the posts.
The Argentine’s move to Manchester will also facilitate Marseille’s pursuit of Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaumes Restes, with Foot Mercato reporting that negotiations are “progressing well.”
Rulli first joined Manchester City a decade ago but never made a competitive appearance for the club.
After impressing during loan spells at Real Sociedad, he made the move to San Sebastian permanent in January 2017.
The goalkeeper’s career flourished after leaving English shores. He joined Villarreal in 2020 and became an instant hero, saving David De Gea’s penalty and converting his own spot-kick in the Europa League final shootout against Manchester United to secure the Yellow Submarine’s first European trophy.
Rulli has also enjoyed international success, forming part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning squad in 2022 and contributing to their Copa America triumph in 2024.
He featured as a backup during this summer’s World Cup campaign.
With the transfer deadline approaching, City may yet complete further business, but the Rulli agreement represents the club’s first step in reshaping their squad for the post-Guardiola era.
