Manchester City have reportedly agreed a surprise late-window departure for striker Omar Marmoush. This move comes as a sudden shift, following manager Pep Guardiola’s recent praise of the Egyptian international.
Shock Departure: Marmoush Exits City After Just One Year
The 26-year-old only joined City in a high-profile £59 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt last January.
However, his time at the Etihad has been disrupted by injury and international duty at AFCON, limiting him to just three Premier League starts this season.
He scored his first goal of the campaign in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Wolves, after which Guardiola called him a “special player.”
The club’s significant January investment, spending over £80 million to bring in forwards Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, appears to have triggered this decision.
Semenyo’s immediate impact, with three goals in four appearances, has pushed Marmoush further down the pecking order.
Financial Fair Play considerations are also believed to be a factor in sanctioning a sale.
Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are both locked in negotiations for the forward, with Fenerbahce prepared to offer around €30 million.
However, reports indicate Marmoush himself prefers to remain in the Premier League.
This has attracted attention from Aston Villa and Tottenham, though the player is said to only want a loan move if he stays in England.
Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation, creating a multi-club race for his signature.
City now face a strategic dilemma: cash in on an asset who has rarely started or retain him for crucial depth as they compete on four fronts, especially with main striker Erling Haaland struggling for form.
The final days of the window will determine where Marmoush plays his football this season.
