Manchester City is reportedly preparing to cut short Claudio Echeverri’s loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen due to the player’s severe lack of game time.

The Premier League club is unhappy with the situation and believes a recall is the best course of action for the young Argentine’s development.
Since his summer move to the Bundesliga champions, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled to make an impact.
Echeverri has started only three matches across all competitions and has yet to complete a full 90 minutes, leaving City officials concerned about his progress.
According to Football Insider, a former chief scout with extensive recruitment experience, the current predicament benefits no one.
“This obviously isn’t what anybody wanted,” Brown stated.
“He’s gone on loan and maybe hasn’t delivered the performances they were expecting of him.”
While Pep Guardiola rates Echeverri highly following his £12.5 million arrival from River Plate last January, the manager does not see him as ready for first-team duties at the Etihad.
The loan to Leverkusen was intended to provide crucial experience, but the plan has backfired.
Brown emphasized that at this stage in his career, Echeverri “needs to be playing regular football.”
The likely solution is for City to activate the recall clause and immediately line up a new loan destination for the Argentina Under-20 international.
With reported interest from clubs like Roma during the previous transfer window, several teams are expected to pursue his signature if he becomes available.
For Manchester City, the priority remains clear: finding a situation where their promising young talent can play consistently and continue his development, something that has failed to materialize in Germany.
