Manchester City have secured the long-term future of defensive pillar Ruben Dias after the defender signed a new two-year contract extension.

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias signs deal to 2029

The new agreement keeps the 28-year-old Portugal international at the Etihad Stadium until at least the summer of 2029, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further year.

Dias originally joined City from Benfica in a £65 million move in 2020 and made an immediate impact.

His outstanding debut season earned him the Premier League Player of the Year award, cementing his status as a key player.

Since his arrival, Dias has been instrumental in the club’s unprecedented success. He has helped the team secure four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup.

Expressing his delight, Dias stated, “I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester – it is my home now – and I love the Manchester City fans.” He added,

“When I think about the trophies we have won and the way we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, praised Dias as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch.”

The club will now likely focus on securing the futures of other key players whose contracts are expiring sooner, including John Stones, Bernardo Silva, and Ederson.

This new deal for Dias ensures one of the team’s most vital leaders remains at the heart of the project for the foreseeable future.
