City players voiced their displeasure and demanded that officials see replays of the crucial moment. The PA news agency has been informed that there were yells after the final horn and after the players had left the field.

After Rashford appeared to sprint on to Casemiro’s through ball and was in an offside position during the buildup to Fernandes’ goal, controversy broke up.

Although Rashford did not touch the ball before allowing Fernandes to shoot, referee Stuart Atwell nonetheless awarded the goal after speaking with assistant Darren Cann and concluding that Rashford had not interfered with play.

Rashford’s run, according to Guardiola, had a noticeable effect on Akanji and Ederson’s responses. After the Carabao Cup loss at Southampton in midweek, City suffered a second straight loss, although Guardiola was happy with this performance.
