Manchester City, the defending Premier League champion, is allegedly leading the chase for RB Leipzig centre back Josko Gvardiol

The Zagreb-born defender has been attracting attention from top European clubs for well over a year, in large part because of his achievements with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, but also because of his performances at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Both Chelsea and Liverpool may now compete with City for the player’s services in the upcoming months. Liverpool is known to have expressed interest in acquiring the player during the most recent January transfer window.

Speaking on the topic of Chelsea interest during a recent interview, Josko Gvardiol said, “My agent told me, ‘Chelsea is highly interested’. You consider a significant offer from a major organisation like Chelsea, but Leipzig insisted they weren’t interested in selling me.

Now, the Mail is reporting that during the upcoming summer transfer season, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool are all interested in signing central defender Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in Croatia. Pep Guardiola and the Etihad transfer chiefs are reportedly leading the hunt for the 21-year-old centre back and are prepared to make him a “priority acquisition” this summer – despite their interest in adding players to other first-team squad positions.

In spite of interest from three of the top teams in the Premier League, Gvardiol’s current employers, RB Leipzig, are eager to retain him, which is perhaps not surprising given his achievements at the club and international levels. Josko Gvardiol will play for RB Leipzig next season, said the club’s head coach Marco Rose during a recent press conference, retaining his bullish outlook on the prospects of his star defender. Since I’m the teacher, I’m requesting that.

Rose added, “He is happy here. We want to keep the player. But the Croatian international still wants to play in England’s top division. He stated his desire to compete in the Premier League, but he made no time commitments. For the time being, Manchester City will keep listening to the opinions of their current defensive players. Aymeric Laporte’s commitment is anticipated to be especially important in determining whether Manchester City decides to make a formal offer for Gvardiol this summer.
