San Diego FC and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne have begun contract negotiations in anticipation of De Bruyne joining the MLS team for their 2025 season debut. At the end of the season, De Bruyne’s contract expires. He was linked to a move to Saudi Arabia throughout the summer. Due to a groin injury sustained during the Champions League match against Inter Milan on September 12, the 33-year-old has not played for Pep Guardiola’s team.
Before the injury, De Bruyne started all four of City’s Premier League games this season. They presently trail rivals Liverpool by one point in the league standings. The Belgian would just be the third player San Diego has announced if he signs on.
Kevin de Bruyne talks with San Diego, preference of MLS over Saudi
The relationship between San Diego and de Bruyne began in May, according to insiders, when de Bruyne’s team contacted the MLS team to determine whether there might be interest. Sources claim that although de Bruyne prefers MLS, he has also communicated with Saudi dealmakers. Michael Emenalo, the sporting director of the Saudi Pro League, is eager to bring him to Saudi Arabia but has not received any support despite reports of extensive negotiations over the summer.
It was never near or conceivable that Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante would sign a contract with Al-Ittihad. Saudi negotiators acknowledge that there hasn’t been any breakthrough thus far, but they don’t suggest their hunt is over. This would be a fantastic addition to the new Major League Soccer team, which will make its league debut the following season.
