5. Willy Cabarello To Chelsea: Manchester City players sold
Although we mostly associate this goalkeeper as being with Chelsea, he was once a part of Manchester City. On 1 July 2017, Caballero finished paperwork for champions Chelsea on a free transfer. Prior to that, his time with Manchester City was from 2014 t0 2017. In 2016, Cabarello had a good season under new manager Pep Guardiola, and was included in the starting squad. However, once Claudio Bravo was signed as the new goalkeeper, Cabarello went back to being a substitute.
4. Wilfried Bony
Wilfried Bony left during Pep Guardiola’s reign in the campaign of 2017-18. Bony made his Manchester City debut on 21 February, trading Sergio Agüero during the remaining 30 minutes of a 5–0 win over Newcastle United. The incredible Ivorian striker got back to Swansea City in 2017 on a two year contract. Later, in January 2020, the striker joined Qatari side Al-Arabi, from where he was loaned to Al-Ittihad, with whom he is under agreement until 2021.
3. Nicolás Otamendi To Benfica: Manchester City players sold
Otamendi played as a centre back for Man City. He had joined the Cityzens on August 20, 2015 and left for Benfica on On 29 September 2020.
During his time at Man City, Otamendi racked up stats of 40 appearances for the Cityzens throughout his Man City career. On 31 October 2015, Otamendi netted his first ball for City, which was during 2–1 victory over Norwich City at Etihad Stadium. He played throughout the match – all of 120 minutes- and lead the Cityzens to win the Football League Cup on 28 February 2016, beating Liverpool.
He has signed a three year contract with Benfica, after being sold for €15 million.
2. Danilo to Juventus
On 7 August 2019, Danilo finished paperwork for Serie A giants Juventus on a five-year contract following a €37 million exchange expense paid by Juventus. The exchange included a section trade that saw João Cancelo move to Manchester City. Danilo made his Juventus debut on 31 August in a match against Napoli, in which he scored the initial goal of a possible 4–3 home triumph, which was likewise the quickest goal scored by a non-Italian player in the Serie A competition. He is one of Man City’s most valuable departures.
In the 2020 Coppa Italia Final against Napoli on 17 June, following a 0–0 draw after guideline time, Danilo missed Juventus’ subsequent spot kick, letting the ball go over the post. Napoli eventually dominated the game 4–2 on punishments.
1. Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich
There is no doubt that Leroy Sane has indeed been Man City’s most valuable departure yet. He was sold to Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in the season of 2020/21 – during the 2020 summer transfer window for a reported fee of €45.00m. He has been with Man City since 6th August 2016 and stayed on till 2020, even though he had a contract signed for five years. So far, he has settled well at Bayern Munich, although he did come down with a serious knee injury a few months back. However, he has returned on the pitch and manager Hansi Flick is very pleased with his progress.
