Orri Oskarsson of FC Copenhagen is being considered by Manchester City to be Erling Haaland’s backup. Despite their strong admiration for the 19-year-old striker, who is expected to leave Copenhagen before the summer transfer window shuts, the defending Premier League winners now appear unlikely to pursue a move for him.

As a backup to Erling Haaland, Manchester City has reportedly explored moving for FC Copenhagen’s Orri Oskarsson, according to a recent report by David Ornstein from The Athletic. Given his impressive form he has scored seven goals in just 11 games this season the 19-year-old Icelandic striker has drawn the interest of multiple European teams. City seems to be in no hurry to move forward with a deal before the transfer window ends, despite their admiration for the young player.

Guardiola approves £17m transfer for Haaland backup with offer confirmed

The sale of Alvarez has left Pep Guardiola short of options up front, with an injury or suspension to Haaland likely to see the Spanish manager move back to his false-nine days. Phil Foden would be the most likely candidate to fulfill that role, though City are reportedly in the market for a new striker to be Haaland’s backup.

As Copenhagen looks to advance to the Europa Conference League stage, Oskarsson, 19, who is valued at €5 million (£4.2 million) by Transfermarkt, has seven goals in 11 games so far this season. In their play-off first leg, the Danish team defeated Kilmarnock, and this week they will visit Rugby Park.

After leaving Grotta FC in September 2020, Iceland international Oskarsson moved to Denmark and spent the second half of 2022-2023 on loan at Sonderjyske, who had just been promoted to the Danish Superliga.
