Manchester City are preparing a major contract renewal offer for Josko Gvardiol, rewarding the Croatian defender for his outstanding impact since joining the club.

The 24-year-old has become one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted players following his 2023 move from RB Leipzig.
Gvardiol helped City secure the Premier League title in his debut season and has continued to excel despite playing out of position at left-back.
Club officials at the Etihad Stadium have now drawn up a lucrative proposal that includes a substantial pay rise.
The new deal would keep Gvardiol at Manchester City until 2033, extending his current agreement which runs until 2028.
City expect no complications during negotiations and anticipate finalising the signing as early as this summer.
Gvardiol suffered a tibial fracture in his right leg back in January, which has kept him sidelined for several months.
He underwent surgery and now aims to regain fitness in time for Croatia’s World Cup campaign across the Atlantic later this year.
The injury opened the door for youngster Nico O’Reilly, who has impressed at left-back in Gvardiol’s absence.
With Manchester City still chasing a domestic treble, the club feels no pressure to rush their Croatian star back to action.
John Stones has returned from injury, while January arrivals Marc Guehi and Abdukodir Khusanov have formed a strong defensive partnership.
Ruben Dias also nears full fitness, allowing Guardiola and his staff to take a patient approach with Gvardiol.
Director of football Hugo Viana has already secured contract extensions for O’Reilly, Rico Lewis, Savinho, Ruben Dias and Marcus Bettinelli this season.
Securing Gvardiol’s future now ranks as a top priority after the defender established himself as one of Guardiola’s most reliable performers during a challenging 2024-25 campaign.
City lifted the Carabao Cup in March and face Chelsea in the FA Cup final on 16 May, while also battling Arsenal for the Premier League title.
