Omari Hutchinson, a Chelsea player, has officially joined Ipswich Town, continuing their Premier League spending spree. The Tractor Boys reportedly came to an agreement with Manchester City’s Liam Delap, and the deal was made even sweeter by beating fellow promoted side Southampton to his signature.

Ipswich and City have agreed to sign teenage player Delap following his loan stint at Hull City last season, according to a report from the Athletic. With Delap scheduled to have his physical at Portman Road on Wednesday, a deal worth £15 million, with add-ons worth £20 million, has been reached with the Premier League winners.

Since Delap and Ipswich are based in Suffolk and have made a lot of money since their promotion, personal terms aren’t believed to be a problem.

Manchester City strategic sales

It makes financial sense for Manchester City to sell Delap for a high transfer price. Because of the intense competition in the squad, Delap’s route to a regular first-team berth is nearly completely obstructed. By the end of the season, Delap’s sale and the sales of other homegrown players like Tommy Doyle to Wolves for just over £4 million and Taylor Harwood-Bellis to Southampton for £20 million will greatly improve City’s finances.

The Athletic report highlights the careful consideration and strategic planning that went into these choices, which ensured both the players’ professional development and the club’s financial security.
