Reasons For Manchester City vs Southampton Betting Tips and Our Predictions

The Manchester City squad are favorites to win this match at 1.24 with bet365, with Southampton priced at 13.00 with Unibet to possibly lose this tie.

Southampton held City for a 1-1 draw last season when other clubs suffered issues. They have a decent record against Pep Guardiola’s men. They are struggling for consistency this season and are sitting at the 20th spot in the table and that is why they are priced at 13.00 with Unibet.

Manchester City vs Southampton Prediction

Team News – Manchester City vs Southampton Prediction

Ruben Dias is still out for Man City due to a hamstring injury he received while playing for Portugal at the 2022 World Cup.

Aymeric Laporte overcame a small back injury to play the entire 90 minutes on Sunday. He will compete for a spot in the centre of defence with John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake, and reserve goalkeeper Stefan Ortega might start in place of Ederson.

Due to illness, Jack Grealish was unable to participate in the FA Cup victory against Chelsea. However, the playmaker is anticipated to play on Wednesday and may replace Phil Foden on the left wing.

Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Rico Lewis are some of the players who might make an appearance after starting on the bench last weekend. However, Guardiola is undoubtedly keeping an eye on Saturday’s Manchester derby and he might rest some of his star players even more in preparation for that game.

Armel Bella-Kotchap, a centre back for Southampton, is still sidelined with a knee injury; according to Jones, the 20-year-absence old’s will only last a few weeks as opposed to several months.

In addition to Stuart Armstrong, who missed the victory over Palace despite previously “playing through the agony,” injuries to Valentino Livramento, Juan Larios, Theo Walcott, and Alex McCarthy also make them questionable for Wednesday’s game.

Romeo Lavia was not used as a substitute against Palace because Jones decided to rest the midfielder, who had only recently returned from injury. However, the former Man City academy graduate, as well as fellow Citizens Gavin Bazunu and Sam Edozie, could get the start on Wednesday.

Che Adams, who has five goals in his past three EFL Cup games, is anticipated to start at the front of the line, and January acquisition Mislav Orsic might make his Saints debut in attack.

Manchester City vs Southampton Expected Lineups and Formation:

Man City
(4-3-3)
Ortega; Lewis, Stones, Akanji, Ake; De Bruyne, Phillips, Gundogan; Mahrez, Alvarez, Grealish
Southampton
(3-4-3)
Bazunu; Lyanco, Caleta-Car, Salisu; Walker-Peters, Ward-Prowse, Lavia, Perraud; Edozie, A. Armstrong; Adams

According to a recent rumour from GiveMeSport, the Citizens under Pep Guardiola are admirers of the Gunners’ winger, and a player-exchange deal including Grealish is reportedly already being “mooted.” According to a quote from the outlet’s article, Grealish “could even wind up travelling in the opposite direction [to Arsenal for Saka],” according to one option that has been floated.

Saka has the same number next to his name as Grealish did when he joined City from Aston Villa 18 months ago, and is currently valued at up to £100 million.

Grealish’s future at Man City has been discussed before, and not just now. In his December piece, agent and CaughtOffside author Haydn Dodge discussed the prospect that the Citizens would move the England international in order to adhere to Financial Fair Play.

Although Saka has been so instrumental in helping Arsenal win the Premier League, it is not surprising to hear that the 21-year-old has also been linked with a high-profile transfer, despite Bellingham being a player who is commanding his own speculation ahead of his inevitable departure from Borussia Dortmund.

Saka, who has just under two years left on his contract, has played in 154 matches across all competitions since being promoted to the Gunners’ senior first squad in 2019. He has also directly assisted 65 goals during that time.

According to Pep Guardiola, Nathan Ake is performing above expectations in the left-back position and assisting in the development of the players around him

Since returning from the World Cup in Qatar, the Dutch defender has played in the position for our three victories and one tie.

The City manager was all praise for Ake ahead of Sunday’s rematch with the London Club in the FA Cup after he once again played a key role in helping City keep a clean sheet in Thursday’s 1-0 Premier League triumph over Chelsea.

Guardiola remarked before the game, “Nobody talks about Nathan, and right now he’s playing beyond our expectations as a left-back.

In a close game at Stamford Bridge, John Stones also stood out, winning the match’s man of the match award. The England defender out-touched every other player on the field in touches, won every aerial duel, and made one magnificent tackle in the first half as Christian Pulisic looked to get through.

The City manager has stated that he needs midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is in contention to face Chelsea. The City manager is eager to give the Spaniard some rest after Rodri experienced cramp in the final moments at Stamford Bridge. A shoulder ailment derailed Phillips’ initial months at the Etihad Stadium, but Guardiola claims that he is now ready to contribute.

John Stones’ outstanding play for Manchester City in recent games, according to manager Pep Guardiola, can be attributed to two personal considerations

Stones led a number of defensive teammates on the night in a commanding display against Chelsea, helping Manchester City secure a 0-1 victory and close the gap with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League to five points.

While in possession, Stones formed a back-three with Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake in the first half. At the break, Manuel Akanji replaced the 28-year-old and the team of Pep Guardiola switched to a more complicated formation.

Stones was flawless on the ball and as competent and well-timed when called upon to play defence, including a key last-second block on a Christian Pulisic shot in the first half. Pep Guardiola was eager to compliment the England international’s performance during his post-game press conference at Stamford Bridge, where Manchester City had just earned one of their most critical three points of the season.

Given that Ruben Dias is still recovering from a muscular ailment acquired in the last stages of the World Cup and that Aymeric Laporte is reportedly only just getting back to full fitness, John Stones has a great chance to further establish his dominance in the central defender position for City.

Pep Guardiola is known for rotating one of the two options in centre defence, but given John Stones’ current form and upward trajectory, his spot in the starting eleven may stay a given for a few more games to come.

Joan Laporta clarifies doubts regarding the signing of Manchester City star to Barcelona

Due to the close ties between Manchester City and Barcelona, Barcelona and Manchester City enjoy a great overall relationship

Although one of Pep Guardiola’s greatest players has been persistently linked with a move to Barcelona for much of the past year, the two have clumsily sidestepped the subject.

If there can be no smoke without fire, then someone on one side of the transaction was persistently spreading rumours that Silva wanted to move to Camp Nou and that Xavi Hernandez was his biggest fan.

In an interview with Que t’hi Jugues on Thursday, Barcelona President Joan Laporta addressed the rumours directly. “We won’t spend $80,000,000 on Bernardo Silva. That much is true. Haaland? We’ll see how he handles it at City; right now, Lewandowski is performing admirably.

Sport reported on his remarks, which most likely put an end to Barcelona supporters’ aspirations of a move. Laporta does not, however, specifically exclude a relocation.

Given the calibre of the player, Manchester City would be perfectly within their rights to demand a sum in that range. However, Guardiola and City have always prided themselves on letting dissatisfied players leave, so it’s possible that Laporta floated that suggestion in an effort to get the price down. Of course, none of this matters if Silva doesn’t try to leave.

Pep Guardiola feels Arsenal have advantage in title race

Pep Guardiola’s side dropped two points against struggling Everton in their last outing.

Premier League title race is wide open and currently, Arsenal takes the charge on top spot but we can’t deny Manchester City making a huge impact in the title story.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola feels Arsenal have an advantage in the title race because they do not carry the same weight of expectation as his side.

Reigning league winners are now eight points behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. They have one game in hand which will be played against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening.

The City manager said: “The advantage of Arsenal and Manchester United right now is nobody has to win the Premier League for 20 points ahead in November like Manchester City has to – and this is sometimes a big problem.

“People say, ‘Ah, yes, you are…’ Yes, we are, but with Arsenal winning all their games and you are seven or eight points behind… it (Arsenal winning the title) can happen.”

City dropped two points against struggling Everton in their last outing but Arsenal’s draw against Newcastle has offered a chance for them to cut the deficit.

“The way they played against Newcastle again impressed me a lot,” he said.

“They dropped two points but they didn’t drop the quality (with which) they played.

“We have to be almost perfect, I would say, from here to the end of the season and hope they drop a little bit in their performance.

“But, at the same time, I see the way we played the last games, and the feeling is good. Maybe we’ll play s*** tomorrow but the feeling is good.

“My target always as a manager is to try to be yourself and be better than the opponent, and after if you concede one shot and they score and we can’t score, you have to accept it and move forward.

“What I want to see is us still fight, don’t give up, not now, until the last chance, until the last drop of water we can fight to win the Premier League, and the moment we are not able to win the Premier League we have to be ready to compete next season. This is when teams are really good.”

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva wants to return to Benfica in future

Bernardo Silva is open to going back to Benfica when the time is right.

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva may leave the club in 2023. He is planning to return to former club Benfica.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed at the start of the current season the club did not want to sell Silva. He was having interest from Barcelona.

The Portuguese international was linked with a sensational €80m move from Manchester to Camp Nou, as part of an ongoing squad rebuild at Barca, ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Silva is looking certain to stay at Man City for the foreseeable future, he is open to going back to Benfica when the time is right.

“I want to return to Benfica to help them, but not to to hang up my boots there,” as per an interview with Record, reported via Diario AS.

“My dream was not to play for the best club in the world, it was to play for Benfica.

“I started there at seven and I always played, from 12 to 17, I played very little, but having reached this level is a source of pride for me because, now I’m at one of the best clubs in the world.”

Silva came through the Benfica youth system, between 2002 and 2013, making just one top-flight appearance, before joining AS Monaco on loan in 2014, before agreeing with a permanent switch in 2015.

Erling Haaland found the net 20 times in 14 Premier League appearances.

Pep Guardiola admitted that Erling Haaland is still not back to his best after injury despite scoring a brace in Manchester City’s three points against Leeds United.

In-form Norway striker netted two second-half goals after Rodri had given the Sky Blues the lead in first-half stoppage time and despite Pascal Struijk’s late header for the Whites, the result was never in doubt.

The former Dortmund striker has now netted 26 goals in 20 appearances for the Cityzens across all competitions, including 20 in 14 Premier League appearances.

Guardiola said: “He misses chances, but the numbers are exceptional.

“He’s an incredible threat for us and always in the right position the right time, really good.

“I think he is still not at his best because of the injury, to move his huge body is not easy for him, but as much as he can play minutes, (he) will be better.”

Guardiola said Haaland has not fully recovered from a foot injury sustained in his side’s goalless Champions League draw against his former club in October.

“I have the feeling he is not at his best,” Guardiola added. “It is a matter of time. Always an incredible threat for the opponent.

“Of course we are delighted, but that little (bit of extra) pace he had at the beginning of the season, he struggles a little bit.

“I am still more than satisfied, but the first part of the season he was sharper. He is getting better, incredible professional. He takes care of his body and mind.”

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch said: “I’m just really happy for him. In some ways watching him score is painful. I want him in a different kit.

“But when you know some of these young men and you see their qualities as people, you just want them to be their best – just not against you.

“But, my gosh, I’m happy for him. He’s such a great person and I’m really happy for him.”
