Manchester City preparing a move for Leeds United midfielder

Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

The England midfielder has been influential for Leeds United last season even though the club managed to survive a hard-fought relegation battle.

He has been linked with a move to Etihad this summer as a potential replacement for Fernandinho who will leave by the end of this month.

The English midfielder could fill the void with the departing Brazilian but he would want guaranteed minutes in the first-team.

“He should be going somewhere he’s playing regular football every week. Phillips shouldn’t go somewhere if he’s going to be on the bench, playing every five weeks or something,” former Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish said.

“No. For me, for his career, wherever he goes, he’s going to make enormous money.

“It stands to reason that he goes to someone for enormous money and plays every week. I would say if he is not guaranteed as a Man City stalwart or in the nucleus of the team, he should go somewhere else.”

The title race will be between Liverpool and Manchester City.

With Manchester City signing Erling Haaland and Liverpool acquiring Darwin Nunez, it means there’s going to be a shootout for the title race once again this year.

Both the teams needed a solid No.9 for a few years now and it would be exciting to see how both the strikers develop in the upcoming season.

“I think he’s coming in straight away as the out-and-out number nine,” Noel Whelan told Football Insider.

“Liverpool and Manchester City haven’t had that option for a few seasons now. It’s nice to see two goalscorers and natural strikers again. I expect both of them to light up the Premier League. They’re coming in with good records in Portugal and Germany.

“Klopp has obviously been a big admirer of Nunez for a while. He scored twice in two games against Liverpool in the Champions League.

“I think it’s the perfect move. It’s one they had to make when you see Erling Haaland coming in at City.

“It’s going to be a shoot-out for first and second yet again.”

Phil Foden is Manchester City’s most successful academy story.

The 22-year-old playmaker expects the academy players to follow his path to success who has already nine major trophies with the Cityzens.

He has made 169 appearances for the club and is expected to make a huge impact in Qatar World Cup 2022.

Foden expects more academy players besides Palmer, Delap and McAtee to break into the first team.

“You look around the first team now and there are definitely more players who have come through the ranks,” Foden noted.

“This season alone, we had Cole Palmer, James McAtee and Liam Delap in and around the first team and these guys are just three names that people will know.

“Having eight academy players line up against Wycombe at the start of the season was a big moment and there’s no reason why that can’t become a more regular thing over time. I’m sure [promoting more players to the first team] is the aim of the guys who work so hard in the academy.

“I know all the staff are working incredibly hard there to achieve exactly that. I’m sure there will be more and more players breaking through over the coming years from Manchester and across the world.”

Bernardo Silva coy about Man City future

Bernardo Silva coy about Man City future

Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva has remained coy on his future at the club following recent speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona

Pep Guardiola said last summer that the Portuguese was willing to quit the club after a decreased role in the team during the 2020/21 season, in which he only made 26 league appearances.
Bernardo stayed at the Etihad and became a far more important player, appearing in all but three of City’s Premier League games this season, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in all competitions.
In recent days, the 27-year-old has been linked with a transfer to Barcelona, where he would likely replace Manchester United midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Pep Guardiola has stated that luring the midfielder away from the Premier League winners would be tough for the cash-strapped Catalan club.

According to sources, the Portuguese midfielder has an agreement in place with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola that permits him to leave the club this summer if a suitable offer comes in. Silva had been linked with a move away from the club last summer, but he ended up staying, thanks in part to this agreement. Silva is ready to move on after five years in Manchester.

In the case of Silva, if Barcelona could make a good offer would be the deciding factor. Reading between the lines, it appears that any monies raised through sales would be committed to Lewandowski, and bringing in a second star signing this summer is out of reach.

Jack Grealish made an 18-minute cameo for England against Germany.

The Man City midfielder recently admitted that he gets more freedom while playing with England rather than his club.

Gareth Southgate has advised the former Aston Villa man to work on his defensive awareness to guarantee a place as a starter.

His performance against Germany left an impact on Rudiger who believes he has a bigger role to play for England in the World Cup.

“Grealish gave the team a real impact,” Rudiger said. “He is a very dangerous player and those sort of players are going to win you games.

“The England squad has great quality. [Bukayo] Saka comes out, Grealish comes in. I saw a lot of big, big names were on the bench. England have a lot to be optimistic about for the future.”

Rudiger continued: “Players like [Marcus] Rashford and [Jadon] Sancho didn’t even make the squad. You have a lot of depth and you have big players like Harry Kane, [Raheem] Sterling and Grealish.”
