Vitor Reis of Manchester City is expected to sign a loan agreement with Girona. The center back will join Michel’s team for 2025–2026 as a result of an agreement between the sister teams in the City Football Group (CFG).
In the past, Girona has had loan deals with both current City winger Savinho, who was on loan from CFG-owned Troyes, and former City full-back Yan Couto. Both players later joined Brazil’s senior international team.
For an initial cost of €35 million (£29.5 million, $35.8 million), Reis, 19, signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with City that would last until the summer of 2029 after leaving Palmeiras in January.
In recent years, Manchester City has helped Girona secure a number of loan agreements. The La Liga team is owned by City Football Group (CFG), which owns 30% of it. To comply with UEFA’s multi-club ownership regulations, CFG sold 17% of its previously held 47% share to an independent blind trust, enabling both teams to play in the Champions League.
Vitor Reis will spend the season on loan at Girona
Reis progressed through Palmeiras’ junior system and made 22 appearances for the Brazilian team. He quickly made a name for himself as a consistent starter in center defense for Abel Ferreira’s team after signing his first professional deal toward the close of the 2022 campaign.
He was among several young Palmeiras players that were offered transfers to Europe. Endrick and Luis Guilherme, who left for Real Madrid and West Ham United, respectively, in 2024, went through Palmeiras’ youth system at the same time as Reis. His teammate at the time, Estevao Willian, joined Chelsea this summer.
The Brazilian player will go to Spain in the next several days to get a medical check. Following the outcome of the medical examination, the loan arrangement will be formally verified. In order to improve his experience and secure consistent playing time, the young player may thus finish the season with Girona.
