Foden’s influence on the pitch was undeniable. Scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists, he proved to be a consistent game-changer under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage.
His contributions were crucial as City edged out Arsenal to clinch the title on the final day of the season.
The Stockport-born star expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition from his fellow professionals.
“Winning this award is a huge honor. It means so much to me to be recognized by players who know the game inside out. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for me,” Foden shared, his humility evident despite the grand achievement.
He didn’t miss the chance to acknowledge the people who helped him along the way. “A special thanks to Pep, the coaching staff, and my teammates. They push me to improve every day,” Foden added, highlighting the collective effort behind his individual success.
Having already claimed the Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards for 2023-24, Foden is not resting on his laurels.
With City already off to a strong start this season, he has his sights firmly set on a fifth successive Premier League title.
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, spoke highly of Foden’s achievement, calling him the embodiment of Manchester City’s ethos.
“Phil is a special talent who constantly strives for improvement. His humility and popularity within the club make this recognition even more deserved.”
In a historic twist, Foden’s teammate Cole Palmer was named PFA Young Player of the Year, marking the first time since 2010 that both awards were won by English players.
With Foden and Palmer leading the charge, the future looks bright for both Manchester City and English football.
