Joao Cancelo joins Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte from Man City to sign any contract for Saudi clubs.
Manchester City have confirmed one more departure as their star defender, Joao Cancelo has completed a permanent move to Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal.
The full-back joined Man City from Juventus in 2019 and won all major trophies under Pep Guardiola. The 30-year-old was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year on two occasions. He scored nine goals and provided 21 assists in 154 appearances for Man City across all competitions.
Cancelo made a loan move to Bayern despite making 26 appearances in 2022-23. He had a loan stint in 2023-24 at Barcelona, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 42 matches.
Barcelona were planning to sign the Portugal international on permanent basis but they failed due to financial issues. Saudi giants Al-Hilal finally won the race to get him on board.
Cancelo spoke to the club’s official website: “I would like to wish everyone at City continued success in the future. I had many very special moments during my time here at this great club.
“I would like to thank my teammates, the coaches, all the staff at City and the fans for everything during my time here.”
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “I would like to thank Joao for his contribution during a remarkable period at City.
“He made a big impact in title-winning campaigns and was a huge influence on the pitch. I would also like to give him my best wishes for the future and the rest of his career.”
Cancelo joins Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte from Man City to sign any contract for Saudi clubs. The duo joined Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr respectively last summer. He is also Al-Hilal’s first signing of the summer under Jorge Jesus.
