Newcastle United have secured the signature of Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £52 million, marking a major statement of intent from the Magpies.

The Spanish international spent 18 months at the Etihad Stadium after completing a £52 million switch from Porto in early 2025.
During his time with the Premier League champions, Gonzalez made 59 appearances across all competitions, featuring 41 times last season alone.
However, his starting opportunities dwindled significantly in the second half of the campaign, with only two Premier League starts after January.
Newcastle’s recruitment team moved swiftly to bring the midfielder to Tyneside, viewing him as an immediate solution to their midfield concerns.
Jaissle expects Gonzalez to slot straight into the starting lineup and provide the creative spark and defensive solidity that the squad requires.
The Spaniard brings considerable top-flight experience despite his relatively young age, having already featured in both the Premier League and Champions League.
