Pep Guardiola encourage Chelsea to give their new head coach enough time

Chelsea boss Maresca also spent time as a youth team coach at Man City.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has encouraged Chelsea to give their new head coach Enzo Maresca enough time. His statement came ahead of their Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca became the fourth permanent manager at Chelsea under the ownership of Todd Boehly. Last season, they decided to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

Pre-season has been tough for Chelsea. Maresca’s side has won just one of his six matches in charge of the Blues in pre-season. The 44-year-old previously managed Parma for just 14 games before winning the Championship title in charge of Leicester City last season.

Maresca also spent time as a youth team coach at Man City, before becoming a first-team assistant under current boss Guardiola. Both managers will met on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

Guardiola hailed Maresca during a pre-match press conference on Friday. He spoke to reporters, “Yeah, we are happy to see him again. I saw him a few weeks ago in the States and we are looking forward to seeing him again.”

“The job Enzo did at Leicester belongs to him and his staff. My influence is zero on Leicester getting promoted again.

“I didn’t score a goal or make any saves. I give info and they learn. It’s on both sides and the success of the people together belongs absolutely to them.

“My advice (to Chelsea) is to give him time and it will work. All managers need time. I don’t know if Chelsea is the place to do this, but it will work if they give him time. This is my feeling.”
