Julian Alvarez unhappy with the lack of playing time at Manchester City

As per Steve Kay of FootballTransfers, Manchester City is utterly perplexed by Julian Alvarez’s actions concerning his future at the Etihad Stadium, his pursuit of transfer offers, and his insistence on receiving better turns. The Argentina international has shown a strong hunger for additional opportunities as a top striker, and over the past few weeks, he has been linked to numerous possible moves away from Etihad Stadium.

Compared to his first season, Alvarez was given many more opportunities in the just finished 2023–24 campaign, which resulted in him having his most successful season yet for the team in front of goal. Tenuous ties to Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have resulted from an openness to investigating alternative options, but Atletico Madrid has emerged as the striker’s most serious suitor as of late.

Man City want €70m + €20m in variables for Julian Alvarez

Alvarez will ultimately establish himself as the team’s main striker and most likely play all of his games if Atletico Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain decide to pursue their initial interest in him. Although City’s demand of €70m plus an additional €20m in variables (Fichajes) appears to have killed any chance of a move abroad, it is certain that the giants of France and Spain are keen.

Even though Erling Haaland will always be City’s first choice at centre forward, the fact that the team is willing to pay such a high price for Alvarez indicates how valuable they think the player is to the team.
