This period includes ten Premier League games, two UEFA Champions League group stage fixtures—starting with Tuesday’s clash against Bayer Leverkusen—and a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford.
Guardiola, however, dismisses any notion of fatigue or complaint. He frames the heavy workload not as a burden, but as a necessary and desired challenge for a team with trophy ambitions.
“We are used to it – we have won quadruples and trebles playing that way,” Guardiola stated.
“We want it. The trebles and quadruples came from playing on Saturday and Tuesday, then Tuesday and Friday and Friday and Sunday. We are used to it. It’s not a problem.”
The manager acknowledged that the Newcastle defeat was a physical battle. He explained that the back-and-forth nature of the match, where possession constantly changed hands, contributed to its intensity.
While he felt his team improved their positioning in the second half, a moment of quality from Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and a subsequent goal from a corner decided the match.
